Are you joking? When someone asked me what was causing me to be so down I told him gynecomastia, and then of course I had to explain what that was. As soon as I described it as Man boobs he knew what I meant, then he laughed!
Man boobs or to give them their correct medical term gynecomastia really do affect your emotional well being. They are certainly no laughing matter and while men are not known for talking about any problems they are having with anyone so this problem is really one that get covered up and ignored for far to long.
The medical condition of gynecomastia may actually seem to be not worth discussing as it isn’t life threatening, but if you are the person with it then believe me it is serious. The long term embarrassment of never being able to comfortably remove your shirt in front of others without having people look at your chest strangely is something that really plays on mens minds.
If your partner suffers with this problem then you need to be as supportive as possible and learn what the options are for treatment. You could work together to lose weight, exercising together is always a good idea, you can set targets and work together towards those targets.
The support of partners, family and even friends if they know about it is vital for anyone who suffers from any medical condition and gynecomastia is no different. Men are not great at sharing usually so it is unlikely they will share this information with just anyone. If you are the person who they are telling then treat that information as a real vote of confidence.
While surgery is not an easy fix for gynecomastia, or a cheap one usually, if your case is bad enough that it is affecting your daily life then you should feel perfectly within your rights to go and have surgery to fix it.
